How did Google Workspace reshape Generali Hungary’s sales communication?
Generali Hungary used Google Workspace to rethink how its sales network communicates and collaborates across the country.
The company has more than 1,800 employees and 2,200 self-employed tied agents, serving around 876,000 customers. Many of these agents are on the road every day, visiting clients and negotiating contracts. They needed reliable access to email, calendars, and contacts from any device.
By moving to Google Workspace, Generali Hungary:
- Adopted Gmail as a highly available, reliable email service that works smoothly across devices and with Chrome, the preferred browser for most users.
- Introduced Google Calendar so unit managers can see their team members’ calendars, plan meetings, and track activities in real time.
- Replaced a manually updated contacts system with Google Contacts, giving everyone up-to-date contact information across the entire sales network.
- Enabled remote collaboration and check-ins via Google Meet and Google Groups, supporting the mobility of agents and managers.
As a result, sales units (typically 10–12 people plus a unit manager) now operate more like connected communities, with better visibility for managers and more efficient service for customers.
What specific challenges did Generali Hungary solve by moving to Google Workspace?
Before adopting Google Workspace, Generali Hungary faced several practical issues that slowed down its sales organization:
- Email performance and reliability: The previous email system had performance problems and compatibility issues with Chrome, which most users preferred. Creating and managing user accounts was also time-consuming.
- Limited calendar visibility: The old calendar tool was not user-friendly and could not be shared effectively. Unit managers couldn’t see their team members’ calendars, making it hard to coordinate client meetings and internal collaboration.
- Outdated contact information: Contacts were maintained in a manually updated system, so salespeople often lacked current details for colleagues and partners across the network.
Google Workspace addressed these pain points by:
- Replacing the legacy email platform with Gmail, improving reliability and simplifying user administration.
- Introducing shared Google Calendars, giving managers clear insight into their teams’ schedules and activities.
- Implementing Google Contacts, so up-to-date contact information is always available across the sales network.
- Adding Google Meet and Groups to support real-time communication and collaboration, especially for agents who are frequently on the move.
Together, these changes helped Generali Hungary digitize sales processes, improve internal communication, and give managers better oversight of distributed teams.
How did Generali Hungary manage change and support frontline agents during rollout?
Generali Hungary treated the move to Google Workspace as both a technology and a cultural change, especially for its tied agents, many of whom started their careers before today’s digital tools were common.
To support adoption, the company:
- Worked with implementation partner Aliz to design and execute a structured change management plan.
- Rolled out Google Workspace in stages: first the core IT infrastructure, then two “early bird” phases, and finally the remaining users.
- Provided additional support and a period of parallel operation so tied agents and managers could get comfortable with the new tools while still having access to the old systems.
Generali Hungary also extended Google Workspace to a new distribution network of younger agents called ROAR. This group quickly became the most active users, showing how the platform fits the expectations of new talent.
After the initial rollout, Aliz helped implement Google Mobile Management to support the growing use of mobile devices and tablets among agents. Generali Hungary is now working to build an IT architecture that fully supports these devices, and continues to explore additional Workspace capabilities to solve business problems over the long term.
